There are two major dysfunctions in facial paralysis: Pure Facial Paralysis which affects not only smile but also eye closure and Postparalytic Facial Synkinesis which affects not only facial asymmetry but also synkinesis problems. Both constitute great challenges to reconstructive surgeons around the world. In 2011, we hosted “The 1st International Instructional Course for Facial Paralysis Reconstruction” at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Linkou, Taiwan. We invited international well-known faculty to performed 8 live surgeries demonstrating the most up-to-date techniques, including nerve reconstruction and functioning free muscle transplantation. Numerous educational lectures were arranged, including advances in surgical techniques, controversial issues, and current trends. Interactive “Q & A” between participants and faculty also gave our members an exclusive opportunity to ask questions and express their opinions, It had been tremendously successful and extremely educational for all attendees. Because of this great experience, we encourage ourselves to continuously host the 2nd Facial Paralysis Reconstruction Course. The date was originally set in April 2020 (ten years after the first Course). However, it was unfortunately canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While the pandemic is under control now, the desire to learn and share our knowledge has never stopped. We are eager to arrange the 2nd Course that many of our friends and colleagues are looking forward to. To update with current trends in facial paralysis reconstruction we will include smile, lagophthalmos, synkinesis, regional muscle and free muscle transfer et cetera reconstructions in the 2nd Course. We have invited 11 international and 3 domestic faculty to perform more than 10 live surgeries in the morning through four separate operating rooms with live broadcast. Multiple afternoon lectures (basic and clinical) are following in the afternoon. A stimulating “Q&A” session will be scheduled in one nighttime. It is a 3-day meeting. We cordially invite you and your colleagues to Chang Gung Memorial Hospital to participate in the unique Course. It is a rare opportunity to meet and learn from leading experts in the world in facial reanimation. We are very much looking forward to seeing you all in the meeting in Taiwan.
